How do I know if my information is compromised?
How do I know if my information is compromised?

There is no way to fully understand if your details are available on the dark web and from the plethora of YouTube videos, cyber security articles and experts I have watched, read and spoken to, it is safe to assume your details are for sale for about $30 (£22). There are a few websites where you can check reported breaches and whether your information has been found on the darknet.

Google offers: Google Dark Web Report: Manage your Google Account, go to security, and turn on the dark web report feature to scan for your email.

Have I Been Pwned: Type your email address into Have I Been Pwned to see if your data appeared in known public security breaches.

Aura Free Scan: Run a quick assessment using the Aura Free Dark Web Scan to check if your contact details or passwords are exposed.

I have checked my details with the above websites and interestingly Aura is showing my full name and email address on the dark web, one of my old passwords is shown and accurate, 2 other passwords have been made up and not by me.

Google has formerly contacted me to say my passwords were breached and that I needed to change them immediately after they did an automatic search and found my information on the dark web.

Have I Been Pwned is showing 16 breaches including: CarGuru's February 2026 and National public data breach in April 2024 where 3 billion people suffered data breaches.
