Beacon CRM data breach impacts more charities

Yesterday we reported Beacon a third party Customer Relationship Management (CRM) company was breached meaning millions of stored information had been downloaded from their database. This includes names, addresses, financial and health information of those who have donated has been compromised. The latest charities to be recognised as being impacted include high profile charities such as Molly Rose Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey, and English National Ballet. Local charities such as Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital charity, the British Deaf Association, and Lincoln Cathedral have all since joined the breach list.

Charitable organisations impacted have been advised by Beacon to make 'their own risk assessments now regarding onward notification to impacted data subjects'.

Read more about technical information of how Beacon has been breached here.

If your have donated to any of these charities it is best to assume your information has been compromised and you are a potential target for fraud.

Our best advice is to protect your information by protecting yourself from vishing, smishing and phishing, read more about how to do that here.
