Department of Work and Pensions text fraud is on the rise again this year in Telford & Wrekin. Please be aware of text messages offering winter fuel payments, home warm discounts and any support schemes, some offering as much as £300.00 in help.

What are they trying to gain from you? These messages are often designed in a multi layer approach:

Gather your basic information (this is then often sold on the dark web).

Try to pressure you into providing your banking information (which they will pay the funds into) this can be used for identity theft along with your above information.

Send malware to your device to strip relevant personal information over time.
